Works as a team member with school staff, parents and the community to create a caring, supportive climate and atmosphere whereby students can achieve academic success. Understanding of unique and diverse challenges, both personally and developmentally that impact academic achievement of secondary school students is essential. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.## Position Specific Information (if Applicable):## Responsibilities:--- Provide information to students and parents regarding academic progress, counseling programs, community resources, etc.--- Align the counseling program to school goals (School Improvement Plan).--- Counsel students to encourage and support academic achievement through classroom lessons, small groups and individual sessions. Counsel students regarding educational issues such as course and program selection, school adjustment, truancy, study habits and career planning.--- Use assessment data to measure student learning and academic growth and analyze results in planning counseling decisions.--- Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.--- Assist in coordinating district, state, and/or secondary testing programs.--- Maintain community partnerships to support students and their families.--- Demonstrate age-appropriate counseling practices that meet academic, career, and personal/social needs.--- Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling practice and program.--- Document health related services in designated Medicaid documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement Program as assigned.--- Manage a counseling program in order to support academic achievement, career planning, and personal/social development.--- Encourage two-way communication to enhance and promote the school counseling program.--- Support students in the successful transition from each grade level into the next phase.--- Work collaboratively within the school environment and with appropriate stakeholders to advance the goals of the Counseling Program.--- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.--- Counsel individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social or behavioral problems affecting their educational situation.
