POSITION SUMMARY The Packaging Specialist plays a crucial role in defining and implementing innovative and sustainable packaging solutions that enhance value for our patients, consumers, and customers. This position focuses on operational improvements and requires providing technical support and expertise to manufacturing and other departments on packaging projects. Success in this role hinges on strong cross‑functional collaboration, effective decision‑making, and self‑sufficiency.
This is an on‑site position located at our Franklin Park, IL manufacturing facility.
RESPONSIBILITIES Implement Innovation & Renovation Packaging Projects
Act as a packaging subject matter expert in support of packaging initiatives that will result in new product introduction, increased productivity, higher quality and improved costs
Recommend and lead packaging solutions that reduce distribution cost or damage and provide competitive advantage
Introduce and deliver new and revised packaging concepts and processes focusing on environmental footprint, functionality and consumer value
Deliver results by working in a collaborative, cross‑functions environment with Procurement, Manufacturing, Quality/R&D and Sales/Marketing to manage the Material Qualification process
Ensure Packaging System Performance & Productivity
Deliver technical support on installation and commissioning of new packaging equipment, line layout modifications
Provide front line support to factories. Make sure of knowledge transfer related to packaging mastership to eliminate the root cause of assistance requests
Propose Asset Intensity improvement solutions for fill & pack operations
Lead plant driven technical improvements in alignment with technology platform owners and support corporate technical improvements
Work with operations to resolve packaging design issues and communicate opportunities to tailor design to improve manufacturability
Deliver front‑line support to factories by facilitating knowledge transfer in packaging mastery to eliminate the root causes of assistance requests
Sustainability
Understand existing local waste management streams to prioritize sustainable solution are development
Close internal and external collaboration to develop optimized long‑term solution
Introduce and deliver new and revised packaging concepts and processes focusing on environmental footprint, functionality and consumer value
REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Material Science, Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field, with Master's preferred
3+ years of relevant packaging industry experience as related to the food and beverage industry
Clear understanding of packaging design, materials, equipment and systems including SAP
Strong administrative and computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
Working knowledge of project life cycle deliverables, contract and schedule
Understanding of industry standards of Regulatory Compliance and Food Safety
Experienced in project management as a Project Leader and cross‑functional team
Able to travel up to 40% of the time
SKILLS
Excellent oral/written/interpersonal communication skills with the ability to influence others and drive alignment among team functions
Ability to convey complex and/or detailed information to a wide range of individuals/audiences with different knowledge levels
Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with a proven ability to identify and resolve issues promptly while gathering and analyzing information to develop and execute action plans
Ability to work in a fast paced and high performing environment
The approximate pay range for this position is $87,000–$95,000 base. Final compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as geographic location.
