Job Description Preside over and decide Tribal Court cases, including criminal, civil, probate, juvenile, domestic and traffic. May supervise assigned Court Clerks. Operate in furtherance of established court rules and policies, Tribal Law and Order Code, Tribal Constitution and the Indian Civil Rights Act. Handle cases efficiently and professionally with fairness, impartiality and objectivity. Exercise authority of the Chief Judge when delegated. Maintain confidentiality. Interact with other judges, coworkers, prisoners and the public. Work with the Bureau of Indian Affairs and outside organizations requiring understanding of the Tribal legal system and processes.

4 years experience in a private or public job that is related to the law profession. A combination of education and experience may be acceptable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Thorough working knowledge of the Tribal judicial system, courtroom procedure, reservation law and order code, tribal ordinance, Indian, family, criminal, juvenile and civil law. Must have demonstrated a high moral character and respect with the Warm Springs Community! This position is appointed by the Warm Springs Tribal council for up to 3 years.

Requirements Bachelor of Science degree in related field preferred but not required. Two years experience in a private or public job that is related to the law profession. A combination of four years law course work and /or training is acceptable. Must be 26 years of age or over, a resident of the Warm Springs Reservation

and an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs Reservation of Oregon . Must have no felony convictions. Must not have been convicted of a criminal offense during the three years preceding application for this position. Must have demonstrated a high moral character and respect with the Warm Springs community. Must be self‑motivated, able to think independently and maintain self‑control.
