Northwell Health’s Department of Neurology is seeking a visionary and accomplished physician leader to serve as our System Director of Cognitive Disorders, driving the expansion of our renowned program across Manhattan and Long Island. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of cognitive care within New York’s largest healthcare provider.
About the Program The Northwell Health Cognitive Neurology Center, part of the Northwell Health Neuroscience Institute, offers comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of various cognitive disorders across the Northwell network. Northwell's investment in the development of the new Center for Healthy Aging and the Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Center signals a strong commitment to expanding its cognitive neurology program. With projected growth of 7,000-14,000 annual ambulatory visits for cognitive diagnosis in the next 5-10 years, you’ll be at the forefront of an expanding field.
We have also established at Glen Cove Hospital in Long Island a unique, dedicated, and specialized 12-bed Parkinson's and movement disorders inpatient unit, offering advanced rehabilitation services and medical and surgical optimization to patients with more advanced disease and is integrated with the DBS program for post-surgical programming combined with intense rehabilitation and medication optimization. The program has recently received Joint Commission certification, and it has affirmed itself as the leading inpatient program in the US.
About the Role The System Director will collaborate with hospital and health system leadership to drive the program’s continued success and growth. As System Director, your responsibilities will include:
Physician recruitment, mentorship, and supervision
Development and implementation of strategic program growth initiatives
Process improvement initiatives
Oversight of clinical, quality, operational, and financial performance
Operate at multiple sites weekly
Research The Feinstein Institutes is the home of the research institutes of Northwell Health and plays a significant role in advancing understanding and treatment of cognitive neurological conditions. Encompassing 50 research labs, 3,000 clinical research studies and 5,000 researchers and staff, the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research raises the standard of medical innovation through its six institutes of behavioral science, bioelectronic medicine, cancer, health system science, molecular medicine and translational research.
About the Department The Department of Neurology has seen tremendous growth over the past five years across all regions, with the goal of providing comprehensive, integrated health care and wellness services. Inclusion within the service line offers the opportunity to connect with a large group of neurologists, academic, teaching, world class grand rounds, conferences and the ability to discuss and share cases with experts in every subspecialty. At Northwell Health’s Institute for Neurology, we have three hospitals ranked in the top 50 in the U.S. News & World Report as well as four comprehensive stroke programs, 11 primary stroke centers and 1 thrombectomy capable center.
Candidate Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine from an accredited institution (ACGME or foreign program that is similarly appropriately accredited)
Completion of Neurology residency and fellowship training in cognitive neurology strongly preferred
Board Certified
Minimum of 5 years of experience
Strong interest in system-level leadership and program growth
Licensed as a physician in the State of New York
