POSITION SUMMARY The Community Safety Coordinator will oversee the development and implementation of community-based strategies to reduce firearm violence in high-impact areas. This role involves convening and facilitating collaboration between non-profit organizations, community stakeholders, and law enforcement to create and implement Community Safety Action Plans. The Program Manager will ensure effective oversight of victim assistance funding and develop strategic recommendations for resource allocation to support community revitalization and violence reduction efforts.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES/FUNCTIONS
Program Coordination & Community Collaboration
Convene and facilitate regular meetings with nonprofit RPSA grantees, local organizations, and community stakeholders to develop violence reduction strategies.
Build consensus among stakeholders on action plans and policy recommendations to the Office of Firearm Violence Prevention (OFVP) and local law enforcement
Formulate and develop Community Response Engagement Workgroup (C.R.E.W)
Strategic Planning & Policy Development
Lead the development of Community Safety Action Plans, incorporating community input, crime data, and evidence-based strategies.
Provide strategic recommendations to the OFVP and policymakers regarding the allocation of violence prevention and community restoration resources.
Data, Evaluation, & Reporting
Monitor and assess program effectiveness through data collection, analysis, and community feedback.
Prepare reports on violence prevention initiatives for the Illinois General Assembly and other stakeholders.
Identify trends and emerging issues related to firearm violence and recommend data-informed interventions.
Community Engagement & Public Advocacy
Lead public outreach efforts to increase community involvement and trust in violence prevention programs.
Advocate for policies that support sustainable community safety and gun violence reduction.
Facilitate training and capacity-building workshops for community organizations and service providers.
Perform other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS Required
Bachelor’s degree in public policy, social work, criminal justice, or a related field OR minimum 3+ years of experience in violence prevention, community organizing, public policy, or nonprofit program management.
Proven experience in facilitating coalitions, managing partnerships, and engaging diverse community stakeholders.
Expertise in violence intervention strategies, trauma-informed approaches, and restorative justice practices.
Strong project management, budget oversight, and grant compliance experience.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and consensus-building skills.
Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Flexibility and team-oriented
Experience with Microsoft Office, as well as the willingness to become proficient in other software packages and programs
Valid driver’s license
Preferred
Master’s degree in public policy, social work, criminal justice, or a related field
Experience working with government agencies, law enforcement, or policy advocacy organizations.
Familiarity with Illinois’ Reimagine Public Safety Act (RPSA) and Office of Firearm Violence Prevention (OFVP) funding mechanisms.
Demonstrated ability to use data analytics and community assessments to guide decision-making

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a multi-purpose facility and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be high depending on the activities in the facility.
Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk and/or sit; use hands and fingers to feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; regularly talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, lift as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 50 pounds. Must adhere to proper handling and lifting techniques. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
