The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below; and specific functions may change from time to time.* Competence in the technical operations of all equipment* Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic ultrasound examinations.* Exams include, but may not be limited to, abdominal, vascular, small parts, ob-gyn, vascular, infant head/hip/spine, and interventional procedures.* Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.* Uses independent judgment during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.* Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the Perinatologist.* Assume responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the sonographer's care.* Communicate effectively with the patient and the health care team, recognizing the special nature of sonographic examinations and patient's needs.* Assists with the daily operations of the ultrasound department.* Maintains ultrasound equipment and work area and maintains adequate supplies.* Other duties as assigned**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:**EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:*** High school diploma or equivalent required* Graduate of AMA approved Sonography program required* ARDMS Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) required **and*** Nuchal Translucency Certification **AND** Fetal Echocardiogram Certification required* Level III sonographer must hold ARDMS certification in 3 areas, required* Current AHA CPR certification required**WORK EXPERIENCE:*** 5 years of experience required**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:*** Technical skills and expertise in performing diagnostic and vascular sonography* Positive interpersonal skills* Verbal and written skills* Compassionate patient care* Knowledge of growth and development and understands range of treatment needed for all age groups* Ability to provide care based on the patient’s developmental needs* Effective patient care and interacts effectively with patients of all ages**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:*** Ability to communicate orally* Dexterity and visual acuity* Mobility to assume awkward positions and respond to emergency situations* Ability to stand for long periods of time* Ability to bend lift up to 100 pounds, carry objects up to 50 pounds* Position may involve skin, eye, or mucous membrane contact with blood or other potentially infectious material**Required Licenses and Certifications**Cape Fear Valley Health System is an Equal Opportunity Employer M/F/Disability/Veteran/Sexual Orientation/Gender IdentityFor exceptional healthcare come to Cape Fear Valley Health where caring employees are committed to integrity, patient-centeredness and excellence throughout the entire healthcare process.
