Job Description American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit stepdown position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and current NE or compact RN licensure.
Responsibilities
Work in a hospital Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with a stepdown setting
Adult patient population including cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, stroke, respiratory, post-stent, post-pacer placement, and renal failure
Unit has 40 beds with an average daily census of 24 and nurse-patient ratios of 1:4-5 for both day and night shifts
Drip titration required with heparin, nitro, dopamine, cardizem, amiodarone, and insulin
RNs must be competent with arterial lines and able to read and interpret telemetry strips
High flow oxygen equipment used on the unit
Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience strongly preferred
Shifts are 12-hour days (0630-1830), with every other weekend required
Holiday coverage required for a minimum of 2 holidays during the contract
Floating required to MedSurg or ICU to care for PCU acuity patients
Must be flexible, adaptable, and receptive to feedback in a fast-paced hospital environment
Strong communication skills and ability to work with a diverse patient population, including Hispanic and Somalian communities, are essential
Team includes charge nurses on each shift and patient care techs with a 1:12 ratio
Use of overhead lifts, portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners is required
Navy blue scrubs are required as part of the dress code
Only 7 or fewer days of requested time off (RTO) will be considered for the duration of the 13-week contract
First-time travelers not specified; previous direct employees of CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year are not eligible
Requirements
Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration
Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in a stepdown or PCU setting
Competency with arterial lines and titration of drips as listed
Must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips
Epic EMR experience preferred
Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility, verified via driver's license
Candidates may not have current full time, part time, or PRN employment with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health facilities
Compliance with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited
Successful completion of a pass/fail exam during orientation (open book, must score 90% or above) is required
