Job Summary and Qualifications The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high‑quality, patient‑centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs a variety of diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

Responsibilities

Perform and document patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.

Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.

Assist with placement of artificial airways. Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.

Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response.

Assist with transportation of ventilator‑dependent patients.

Respond to emergent patient situations and ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation as required.

Qualifications

Required Education: Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care OR Completion of Respiratory Care Program Accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC)

Preferred Education: Associate’s Degree in Respiratory Care OR Completion of Respiratory Care Program Accredited by Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) and 20 years of experience

Required Licensure: Registered by NBRC; a current North Carolina License issued by North Carolina Respiratory Care Board (NCRCB) and a current BCLS.

Preferred Licensure: ACLS, PALS, NRP (Pediatric‑Perinatal Specialty)

Preferred Experience: 2 Years Critical Care

Located between the towns of Highlands and Cashiers, the hospital offers 24/7 emergency care, acute inpatient care, rehabilitation, as well as long‑term care through Eckerd Living Center. Ambulatory services are also available, including therapy services and primary care. Highlands‑Cashiers Hospital has more than 24 beds for acute care services and 80+ beds in the Eckerd Living Center.
