Research Faculty – Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn (Open Rank/Track)
Position Overview The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a PhD or MD/PhD researcher to join the Department of Surgery, Division of Trauma, Critical Care and Burn. Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience. This position is 100% research. The Division seeks highly qualified PhD‑level candidates to expand its breadth of basic and translational research, leveraging clinical excellence, patient access, and biospecimen samples. Expertise in sepsis, inflammation, infection, and immune cell function is a plus. The Division has a strong track record of publication, grant writing, and funding, which we seek to expand by creating a collaborative science model between clinicians, clinician‑scientists, and scientists.
Duties and Responsibilities
Conceptualize, plan, design, implement and conduct research studies; develop and write grant proposals to seek and obtain extramural funding to support research; obtain and maintain NIH R01 or equivalent funding.
Write and publish research in high quality peer‑reviewed scientific journals; attend and make presentations at national and international scientific conferences; develop national and international scholarly reputation.
Instruct and mentor junior scientists, doctoral and postdoctoral students, medical students, residents and fellow trainees; participate in department, college and university committees and initiatives.
Requirements
PhD or MD/PhD in an applicable field.
Postdoctoral research experience in basic science research.
Proven ability to write scientific reports and publish in peer‑reviewed journals preferred.
Current, active extramural grant funding (equivalent to NIH R01).
Academic experience a plus.
Qualified for academic appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level – academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience.
