Overview Advanced Technologies and Laboratories (ATL), a Planned Systems International (PSI) company, is hiring for a Industrial Hygienist in Richland, WA.
This position will support Navarro-ATL. Navarro-ATL is located in Richland, WA and operates, manages, and maintains the 222-S Laboratory Complex for the Department of Energy. Navarro-ATL members are Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. (Oak Ridge, TN), and Advanced Technologies and Laboratories International (Gaithersburg, MD).
Essential Functions And Job Responsibilities Conducts health programs to recognize, eliminate, evaluate, and control occupational and environmental factors or stresses arising from the workplace or facility that may cause sickness, impaired health or well-being, or significant discomfort and inefficiency among workers. Coordinates the monitoring of all workplace environments by analyzing work operations and processes, materials, equipment, and work habits of employees; measures the magnitude of exposure to workers of all environmental hazards by selecting or devising methods and instrumentation suitable for such measurements; and presents specific conclusions and recommendations to appropriate management groups. Prepares rules, standards, and procedures as necessary to promote the healthful conduct of all work practices and the prevention of hazardous or nuisance exposure to the surrounding community. Assists supervision in educating employees on practices, precautions, and procedures established. Reviews present and proposed standards and surveys new installations. Audits programs and conditions at all facilities; provides written reports of findings with recommendations for improvement (where needed); and follows up on implementation.
Responsibilities: Grade 18
Under minimal supervision, incorporates complete understanding of Industrial Hygiene (IH) practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and programmatic planning where specific detailed objectives are stated.
Performs comprehensive practices of IH by anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling environmental factors or stresses in the workplace.
Provides limited guidance and direction to less senior IH professionals.
Carries out development and qualification programs on tasks concurrent with other phases of assignment.
Performs advanced assessments of work exposures; designs and conducts comprehensive exposure monitoring strategies.
Ensures compliance with technical regulatory requirements.
Develops alternate solutions to existing problems, performing all necessary detail work.
Evaluates proposals and makes recommendations based on proposed projects/tasks.
May delegate portions of detail work to less senior personnel.
Prepares procedures and other documents supporting or publicizing technical effort.
Develops and leads implementation of continuous improvement initiatives within the group.
Takes necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition.
Other duties as assigned.
