In this position you are responsible for commissioning, calibrating, troubleshooting and repairing a variety of industrial process equipment at our customer’s industrial, commercial, pharmaceutical and municipal sites. We’re looking for an energetic, self‑driven, professional individual to join our established service team in the Central Virginia region. Instrumentation and process equipment familiarity is a must.

Responsibilities

Commissioning, calibrating, troubleshooting and repairing flow meters, pressure transmitters, level transmitters, temperature transmitters, chart recorders, controllers and valves to meet customer requirements.

Visually inspect, test and recommend changes to ensure installations meet manufacturer standards for operation.

Observe processes, develop tests and procedures to detect proper or malfunctioning operation, prepare reports, discuss findings with customers or sales representatives, and recommend changes or actions to resolve problems.

Dismantle defective instrumentation and equipment and replace with new or repaired parts per manufacturer procedures.

Assemble, repair and/or replace related instrumentation and associated equipment.

Direct installers on proper placement of equipment according to drawings and manufacturer recommendations.

Advise customers on proper installation requirements.

Conferring with other Field Service Technicians, manufacturer representatives and customers to diagnose instrument and equipment malfunctions and provide technical solutions for complex requirements.

Train customer representatives on the proper use, troubleshooting and maintenance of instrumentation and equipment and prepare related materials for spare parts.

Requirements

Associate’s degree in a technical field (preferably Instrumentation, Mechatronics, or Electronics Engineering Technology) or four or more years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Proficient with programmable logic controls, input/output, pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, AC/DC, instrumentation, etc.

Working knowledge of Word, Excel, networking, database management and Microsoft Windows components.

ISO 17025 certification preferred but not required.

Ability to work with mathematical concepts and apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to convert standard measurements to metric and calculate measurements of gas, temperature, balanced air or water flow, etc.

Work Environment and Physical Demands Will be regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and risk of electrical shock; frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions; and extreme heat, cold, and vibration. The noise level may be very loud.

Regular use of hands to handle or manipulate parts, hand tools, impact wrenches, multimeters, voltmeters, etc. and to operate office equipment; may regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

This is a full‑time position, hours of work vary but the days are typically Monday through Friday. You will travel from your residence to the customer location in a company truck and receive a daily stipend for food.

This position regularly requires overtime hours and weekend work as job duties demand. Must be available for assignment on short notice. Travel is up to 75% of the time and primarily local during the business day, although occasional travel is expected, which may require overnight stays and weekends. Ability to transport self to various facility sites as required. Company vehicle and tools provided. Must possess a valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
