The Surgical Tech First Assist supports surgeons during operative procedures by providing direct assistance, ensuring sterile technique, and maintaining surgical instruments and supplies. This role is critical in promoting patient safety, efficiency, and positive surgical outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and sterile Assist surgeons during procedures by providing instruments, suturing, and handling tissues as directed Maintain sterile fields and enforce infection control standards throughout procedures Anticipate surgeon needs and respond promptly during operations Monitor patient status intraoperatively and communicate concerns to the surgical team Handle specimens appropriately for laboratory analysis Perform post-operative tasks including instrument cleaning, equipment restocking, and documentation Collaborate with nurses, anesthesiologists, and other surgical team members to ensure smooth workflow Required Qualifications
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a surgical setting Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and sterile techniques Ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments Preferred Qualifications (if any)
Prior experience as a First Assist in diverse surgical specialties Advanced training in surgical assisting techniques Strong communication and teamwork skills Certifications (if any)
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
