Production Planner, 2nd Shift (Project Management)

Essential Functions The Production Planner, 2nd Shift, is responsible for translating customer demand into executable production schedules that balance capacity, materials, labor, and delivery commitments. This role develops and maintains the Master Production Schedule to meet customer requirements while optimizing inventory, production flow, and resource utilization. The Planner works cross-functionally with Production, Purchasing, Quality, Maintenance, and Logistics to ensure materials availability, schedule adherence, and on-time delivery. This position reports directly to the Materials Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, maintain, and continuously adjust production schedules based on customer orders, production capacity, and inventory levels.

Translate customer demand into executable production plans and schedules.

Ensure production targets, customer delivery requirements, and inventory objectives are met within established timelines.

Communicate all production schedule changes to Production, Purchasing, Quality, and Logistics.

Assist in planning and execution of new product launches and production transitions.

Ensure all required materials and components are available to support the production schedule.

Monitor raw material, WIP, and finished goods inventory to prevent stockouts or excess inventory.

Coordinate with Purchasing to ensure timely ordering of materials and components.

Identify material risks and supply chain disruptions and implement corrective actions.

Analyze production capacity and identify bottlenecks or resource constraints.

Balance labor, machine capacity, and material flow to optimize production efficiency.

Collaborate with Maintenance to align preventive maintenance, line improvements, and equipment availability with the production schedule.

Monitor production performance and resolve planning-related issues that could impact delivery, efficiency, or cost.

Prepare reports on key production planning metrics, including schedule adherence, cycle time, lead time, and output efficiency.

Analyze trends, identify inefficiencies, and recommend process improvements.

Use historical production and performance data to inform future planning decisions.

Work closely with Production, Purchasing, Quality, Maintenance, and Logistics to align production priorities.

Support customer delivery commitments by validating schedule feasibility.

Maintain accurate records of production plans, schedules, and performance status.

Work with customers as needed to communicate timelines and support customer satisfaction.

Participate in all TVS SCS quality and excellence initiatives.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED required.

3+ years of experience in production planning, inventory planning, scheduling, or a similar role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Working knowledge of ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems).

Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and production reporting tools.

Forklift certified or ability to become forklift certified within a defined onboarding period.

Previous hands‑on experience in a manufacturing, distribution, or assembly environment; tire and wheel operations experience strongly preferred.

Demonstrated experience supporting:

Demand‑driven production scheduling

Inventory optimization

Capacity planning and bottleneck analysis

Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced, floor‑based manufacturing environment.

Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement principles preferred.

Travel Occasional travel may be required.

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that an employee must meet to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee will be exposed to high forklift traffic and is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The associate may occasionally be required to lift 51 pounds, anything greater than 51 pounds requires assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment This job is performed in a complex manufacturing environment with multiple workstations, heavy machinery and frequent forklift traffic. The facility is subject to seasonal temperature changes. Employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel‑toed shoes with metatarsal protection and any additional equipment as specified by company safety guidelines.

Position Type / Expected Hours of Work Full‑Time, Exempt. Schedule flexibility for extended or unplanned work hours is required.
