The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina is accepting applications for an
Associate Athletic Director of Budget and Finance . This position will provide administrative and analytical support to the athletic director regarding strategic opportunities and resource development and will develop and implement budget and finance policies that help to ensure fiscal responsibility and optimize fiscal position across the department.
Job Responsibilities The position reports to the Athletic Director and works closely with the Vice President for Finance and Business. Key responsibilities include:
Oversee the multi‑million dollar athletic department operating and facilities budget.
Formulate the annual athletic budget by collaborating with the athletic director, coaches, department heads and central administrative units (budget office, division of financial services, institutional research, office of financial aid) to prepare realistic income and expense estimates.
Oversee execution of the annual budget through supervision of the athletic business manager and management of all athletics accounts payable and receivable.
Manage contracts, coordinate the department‑wide apparel contract, and provide oversight of all apparel/equipment budgets.
Act as liaison to procurement services, payroll, treasurer to approve payroll, requisitions, travel vouchers, and internal payment requests; ensure deposits are made to appropriate income accounts.
Other responsibilities include the management of contracts; working with the senior associate athletic director supervising the head equipment manager to coordinate/negotiate the department‑wide apparel contract and provide oversight of all apparel/equipment budgets; act as the liaison to the college’s procurement services division, payroll, and the treasurer to approve payroll, requisitions, travel vouchers, and internal payment requests; ensure deposits are made to appropriate income accounts.
Budget Oversight Responsibilities
Manage accounts payable and billing for Athletics; invoices, reimbursements, vendor payments and interdepartmental transactions.
Provide advice and technical assistance to the athletic director, coaches, and athletics department heads regarding compliance with budgetary best practices.
Establish financial policies for the department in accordance with college/state policies and procedures and other best administrative practices.
Prepare budget execution reports; communicate directly and regularly with the athletic director, coaches, athletics department heads, and the college’s central administrative units and provide appropriate analysis to these stakeholders.
Serve as the athletic liaison to human resources, financial aid and facilities & engineering; work on timely resolutions of personnel, student support and facilities related matters.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
3–5 years of recent professional experience in a budgeting, accounting or finance environment.
Competency with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
Excellent communication skills and can‑do attitude.
Ability to lead and collaborate well with other departments.
Ability to work towards institutional goals and deliver advice/solutions through diplomatic action and teamwork.
Experience managing multiple, high‑profile/high‑impact projects in a demanding work environment.
Experience delivering timely, high‑profile work products to senior leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or another related field.
Progressive combined education/experience in public budgeting, finance, policy, higher education, and/or evaluation/policy research and analysis.
Proficiency with report writing software and Banner systems.
