Salary:
$37.00 – $59.20 hourly. Placement within the salary range depends on experience and internal equity. For union positions, applicable collective bargaining rules apply.

Description The RN float‑Emergency Department reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, and accreditation standards. A clinically competent, registered, professional nurse who prescribes, delegates and coordinates nursing care to the acutely ill patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation and evaluation. Effectively interacts with patients, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining ANA standards of professional nursing practice.
As a Float Nurse and a member of the Resource Team, you will have the opportunity to work in multiple specialty areas and treat an expansive range of patient populations. Floating means each shift could be worked in a different unit or in a different hospital, allowing you to further develop assessment skills and sharpen communication and teamwork. Float Nurses work with diverse people and build relationships with fellow staff members throughout Northwestern Medicine’s West Region.
Responsibilities
Collect and analyze data, identify expected outcomes, develop and implement an individualized plan, coordinate care delivery and evaluate progress toward attainment of outcomes.
Direct care and determine appropriate utilization of any assistant involved in providing direct patient care.
Collaborate with patients, families, physicians and ancillary staff. Create a documented plan focused on outcomes and decisions related to care delivery, indicating communication with patients, families, and others.
Participate in shared governance, committee work, and unit projects.
Evaluate and document patient responses to nursing interventions in the health record and properly individualize the plan of care based on evaluation of findings.
Utilize the best available evidence, including research findings, to guide practice decisions.
Qualifications Required:
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Current State of Illinois Registered Professional Nurse
Basic Life Support
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to collaborate with others
Strong analytic abilities
Additional Requirements for the Emergency Room:
ACLS
PALS
NRP – within 1 year of hire
Preferred:
Experience in a specific clinical area
TNCC/Trauma Nurse Specialist (TNS)
Certified Pediatric Nurse
Certified Emergency Nurse
