Clinical Laboratory Assistant – Evenings (PRN)
The University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS) is a 14-hospital system with academic, community, and specialty medical services. Under direct supervision, you will address the preparation and routing of laboratory testing in various specialized laboratories, following departmental procedures and regulations stipulated by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act. Responsibilities
Receives and accession patient samples into the Laboratory Information System. Ensures codes and information are entered accurately and timely. Maintains accurate patient identification and billing information following departmental procedures. Processes (centrifuges, aliquots, performs other special handling procedures) and delivers specimens to specific laboratories as required. Stores specimens as needed in refrigerator, freezer, incubator, dry ice, or other appropriate storage. Identifies and resolves specimen integrity issues (mislabeling, QNS, incorrect container type, incomplete requisitions, etc.) and documents all information for quality assurance. Processes add‑on testing according to departmental procedures. MAY perform waived to moderate complexity testing. Answers telephones and responds to customer inquiries and requests. Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required. One year of customer service experience preferred. Schedule
Per diem, evenings, weekends as needed. Every other weekend, evenings. Compensation
