Summary The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides direct nursing care to residents and supervises nursing assistants to ensure high‑quality care in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Key responsibilities include planning and overseeing daily nursing activities, administering medications, completing required documentation, and maintaining patient confidentiality. The LPN also performs professional nursing services such as catheterization, wound care, and IV care, while fostering a warm and collaborative environment. The role involves coordinating with physicians, ensuring safety protocols are followed, and maintaining effective communication with residents, families, and staff to meet residents’ needs.
Responsibilities (including but not limited to)
Perform all functions under your active license as they relate to your assigned duties.
Know the residents you serve, providing care based on their care plans and physician orders.
Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician.
Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter‑departmental personnel and other departments within the facility to ensure nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
Receive and give the nursing report upon reporting in and ending shift duty hours.
Make rounds with physicians as necessary.
Assist in all aspects of a resident’s daily life, including activities of daily living, meal service, and social engagement.
Appropriately communicate with clinical leadership when a resident’s needs change.
Know how to approach and care for residents with dementia.
Be willing to take on other duties and assignments within the scope of your knowledge and experience.
Qualifications
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with a current unencumbered state license.
Knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to nursing care facilities.
Experience in long‑term care is preferred.
Willing to take additional training or education, as required by specific states.
CPR and First Aid certifications are required.
Ability to be flexible and adaptable while handling multiple priorities.
Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication.
Competent in organizational and time management skills.
Demonstrates good judgment, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills.
Physical Demands
Required to sit, stand, bend, and walk intermittently throughout the workday; lift and/or move up to 100 lbs.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
May include health requirements set forth by the policies of this facility, which include a medical and physical examination.
May be necessary to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Visual and auditory ability sufficient for written and verbal communication.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
