SPVR AMBULATORY PHARMACY – Moffitt Cancer Center
We are looking for an experienced pharmacist to lead and supervise the Specialty Pharmacy department, supporting medication‑related activities for patient care, research, education, and business operations.
Job Summary Provide leadership, supervision, and oversight of the Specialty Pharmacy department and staff. Support all cancer center staff engaged in medication‑related activity, including patient care, research, education, and business operations. This position provides staff coverage, working at a Pharmacy Specialist competency level. Supervise and coordinate the operations of pharmacy services in Specialty Pharmacy, recommending policy, and ensuring thorough integration with other departments of the cancer center. Ensure that quality, safety, regulatory, financial, and legal standards are met for the benefit of optimal patient care and so the cancer center is in a state of perpetual readiness for inspections, surveys and audits. Provide leadership within the cancer center for assessing the clinical and financial components of cancer care to determine the value of therapy that is provided. Assist with developing budgets, ensuring compliance and providing recommendations for mid‑year adjustments as required for emerging trends and needs. Assist with managing a progressive quality improvement effort focusing on the area of assigned responsibility. Assist with the recruiting, hiring, development, and motivating of department staff within an assigned area, and provide performance evaluations and disciplinary action following Moffitt policy. Assist with the development and administration of progressive educational programs for staff, students, patients, affiliates and the community.
Job Specific Duties
Assist with the development, coordination and integration of clinical services related to the Specialty Pharmacy.
Assist with the development, coordination and integration of drug preparation and distribution services related to the Specialty Pharmacy.
Provide day‑to‑day supervision of direct reports that include Specialty Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians and the Specialty Pharmacy Tech Coordinator, including recruitment, retention and development of competent technical Ambulatory Pharmacy staff.
Operate the department within budgetary parameters and financial objectives.
Provide leadership corresponding to specialty pharmacy, the department, and cancer center.
Provide staff coverage (20‑40% of scheduled time) meeting standards set forth in the Ambulatory Pharmacist Specialist position description that apply to assigned area.
Ensure area of responsibility operates under appropriate legal, quality assurance and risk management policies.
Responsible for other duties as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate
Either five (5) years of progressive institutional oncology pharmacist experience or Advanced Pharmacy Practice Residency (PGY‑1).
Board Certification in Ambulatory Care/Oncology/Specialty Pharmacy.
Previous involvement in fields of patient safety, performance improvement, data collection, and regulatory or accreditation processes.
Interaction with national networks of colleagues for purposes of benchmarking and jointly influencing professional policy.
Requirements
Florida RPh license.
Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (if not a PharmD).
Three years of oncology/specialty pharmacy experience; prior management experience with a clinical background in cancer‑related areas.
Experience with the medication use process in a hospital, clinic and/or specialty pharmacy setting.
Training and experience with all components required for effectively supervising staff.
Advanced knowledge of computer applications, database and statistical analysis skills.
Clinical practice skills in patient assessment and education, pharmacology, genomics, supportive care, and personalized medicine.
Excellent written and verbal communication, facilitation and project management skills.
Experience with staff development programs.
Ability to identify trends, initiate collaboration, develop strategies and implement plans, including bringing closure to issues and opportunities.
