PeaceHealth is seeking an Orthopedic Technician for a full‑time, 1.00 FTE, day position. The salary range for this job opening is $25.49 – $38.18, and the hiring rate depends on education, training, work experience, collective bargaining terms, seniority, and other factors.
Job Summary Responsible for applying and removing orthopedic appliances including casts, splints, and braces. Educates patients on proper care and application of appliances.
Essential Functions
Coordinates and schedules surgical procedures with physicians, hospital surgery scheduling, managed care, and patients.
Applies and removes orthopedic appliances including casts, splints, and braces.
Educates patients on proper care and application.
Evaluates patients who present problems with casts or splints and makes appropriate modifications or adjustments.
May assist physician with pin removal, incision and drainage, setting fractures, joint injections, and other procedures as required and within scope.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education
High School Diploma Preferred or equivalent.
Experience
Minimum of 2 years preferred: Cast room experience.
Preferred: Knowledge of sterile technique and orthopedic supplies.
Credentials
Required: Basic Life Support upon hire.
Preferred: National Board for the Certification of Orthopedic Technologists.
Skills
Experience with relevant PC applications, including basic MS Office skills (Required).
Ability to use office equipment and phone systems (Required).
Working Conditions Lifting
Patient handling no greater than 35 lbs. without assistive equipment (NIOSH).
Occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.; pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs. force.
Ability to move around the area with occasional sitting.
Fine motor skills for controlling medical equipment.
Frequent bending, kneeling, squatting, stooping, reaching, and grasping.
Environmental Conditions
Exposure to biohazard, body fluids, and airborne particles.
Time spent on site in a medical/hospital setting.
Mental/Visual
Vision and hearing within normal limits (glasses, contacts, hearing aids permitted).
Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
