MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of a Medical Imaging Program.
Must possess current or temporary Radiography license as required by state board where services will be provided:
MD: Radiographer License through Maryland Board of Physicians.
OH: Radiographer License through Ohio Department of Health.
PA: No state licensure required.
WV: Radiography License or Temporary Radiography License through West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board.
Must be nationally certified as defined by location where services will be provided:
MD: Registered Radiography Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) upon hire.
OH: Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT upon hire.
PA: Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT within 12 months of hire.
WV: Registered Radiography Technologist by ARRT within 6 months of hire.
Certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire.
State criminal background check and Federal (if applicable), as required for regulated areas.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Rotates in all Diagnostic areas for development of technical skills (Fluoro, Mobiles, Routine, Operating Room, Endoscopy, Orthopedics).
Performs image procedures based on assessment of the patient status, service request, and imaging protocols, monitored by periodic image evaluations and supervision.
Produces images of optimal quality using imaging equipment and systems in image delivery and archiving.
Selects exposure factors based on patient size, condition, and pathology to achieve optimal image quality while minimizing radiation exposure.
Minimizes radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff through shielding, collimation, inverse square law application, and by minimizing repeat exposures.
Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology to optimize procedures and ensure patient care and safety.
Assesses patient needs and provides imaging-related comfort, hygiene, range of motion support, and assistance as required.
Prepares contrast agents, specific pharmaceuticals, and sterile trays for imaging procedures per guidelines and protocols.
Educates patients on radiographic procedures by explaining the process and answering questions.
Promotes a team approach to radiology services through positive interaction with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff.
Engages in problem solving, crisis management, system implementation, and performance improvements to promote efficient, high‑quality, cost‑effective patient care.
Displays imaging techniques, patient care, and guest‑relation behaviors consistent with the ARRT Code of Ethics, WVUH Administrative Policies, Radiology Department Policies, State and Federal Regulation, and Joint Commission guidelines.
Reports equipment failures immediately upon identification.
Completes all in‑services and competencies by the required date, applying learned knowledge.
Positions patients accurately according to established protocols.
Participates in coordination of daily workflow.
Provides minimal instruction and supervision to radiology students on patient positioning, technique selection, equipment manipulation, and accessory device use to obtain radiographic images, within accreditation policies.
Ensures all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety.
Performs medical assisting duties as assigned.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Differentiate various shades of gray and color on a monitor or photograph.
Stand and walk for prolonged periods.
Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
Carry items up to 20 pounds.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Exposure to minimal radiation within national occupational standards, monitored by Radiation Safety and dosimeter use.
Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
Operation of imaging equipment with automated moving parts.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Interact positively with patients, families, and the health care team.
Prioritize and manage multiple situations simultaneously.
Improvise with altered positioning techniques and equipment manipulation when routine positioning is compromised by patient condition, age, or ability.
