Summary : Demonstrates through clinical practice a clear understanding of sterile technique and has a working knowledge of the specialized instrumentation and equipment required for a variety of special procedures.

Responsibilities Essential Functions
Review preference and verify case cart completely prior to case.
Maintain an orderly surgical field and consistently pass instruments and supplies quickly and efficiently to the surgeon.
Anticipate and prioritize the needs of the various steps associated with the procedure.
Participate in sponge, needle and instrument counts as dictated by the procedure.
Maintain the surgical specimen in a manner which identifies and preserves it for pathology evaluation.
Assist in ordering and stocking specialty supplies under the direction of management staff and departmental guidelines.
Transport and deliver items, equipment, and medications (excluding controlled substances and IV chemotherapy drugs) throughout the facility.
Possibly have limited access to areas storing medications.
Maintain reasonable, regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
Maintain compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
Demonstrate awareness of legal issues, patient rights and compliance with the standards of regulatory and accrediting agencies.
Practice efficient use of time and supplies.
Maintain a clear, safe, and organized work area.
Qualifications Education/Training:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Successful completion of Surgical Technology training program; or Orlando Health training program.
Licensure/Certification:
Maintain current BLS/HealthCare Provider certification.
Experience:
Must have two (2) years surgical tech experience. (CST certification may substitute for the two (2) years of surgical tech experience).
