Responsibilities
Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data, and decontamination.
Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.
Explain venipuncture and specimen collection clearly and courteously.
Demonstrate technique using straight or butterfly needles.
Fully understand all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test order.
Check all test requisitions and computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
Package specimens for transport.
Store specimen samples according to required temperature and maintain integrity during transport; understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
Attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Qualifications
Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state where you will be employed.
Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast‑paced lab or hospital setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
High School Diploma or GED.
