Summary This position cares for patients before, during and after angiography and interventional cardiac catheterization procedures. This position cares for Structural heart, Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic / planned intervention Neuro, Vascular and EP pacemaker / device patients. This includes pre‑procedure assessment, pre‑medication, documentation of procedural process, post‑procedure care and patient education.

Responsibilities

(35%)*

Performs nursing care of the cardiac catheterization, Structural heart, Interventional Radiology, Diagnostic / planned intervention Neuro, Vascular and EP pacemaker / device patients.

Calculates cardiac output, performs hemodynamic monitoring, procedural set‑up and operates life‑saving equipment such as intra‑aortic balloon pump (IABP), Impella, etc. Transfers patients, stocks supplies and performs basic office procedures. Scrubbing cases.

Records all pertinent information on appropriate data sheets.

(15%)*

Assists Radiologic Technologists circulate cases, sterically drop procedural supplies on tray.

Other duties: collaborates with physicians to provide a plan of care for each individualized patient, assists in other radiology/cardiology procedures as needed, performs clinical functions as needed, delegates and coordinates tasks and assignments of nursing care, pursues professional growth by seeking educational opportunities and utilizes hospital programs, mentors new employees and students.

This position requires call.

Certifications and Licensures

ACLS – within 1 month of hire or transfer

BLS – within 1 month of hire or transfer

Required Education

RN licensed through the state of Michigan

Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred

Education, Experience, And Training Knowledge of critical care nursing normally acquired through 2 years of experience working in a medical center or similar setting. Interpersonal skills needed to communicate successfully with individuals and groups and interact with people at all levels to convey ideas and concepts in a clear and understandable manner.

Physical/Mental Requirements And Typical Working Conditions Exposure to stressful situations, public contact, trauma, grief and death. Able to wear personal protective equipment including lead and latex or substitutes. Able to move freely with or without an assistive device and can perform required job functions. Frequently required to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods and may stoop, kneel or crouch. Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other infectious material; must meet blood‑borne pathogen and TB testing requirements. Handles multiple tasks, works independently, maintains regular attendance. Physical demand: Medium – occasional lift or carry 21‑50 lbs., frequent 20 lbs., constant 10 lbs.
