Physician Assistant (Interventional Spine and Pain)
Tanner Clinic has an immediate opening for a Physician Assistant in the Interventional Spine and Pain Department.
Responsibilities
Conduct physical exams, assess health status, order and interpret tests, prescribe medications, and treat illnesses including giving injections and suturing wounds.
Consult with physicians as needed and refer to physicians for more complicated medical cases or cases that are not a routine part of a PA’s scope of work.
Monitor therapies and provide continuity of care.
Triage patient calls and evaluate patient problems. Respond to emergencies including use of CPR.
Counsel patients/families on preventive health care.
Document patient information and care in medical records and may maintain department statistical databases for research purposes.
Obtain complete medical history and physical data on patients.
Review patient records, interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in conjunction with the physician or under the direction of a physician.
Dictate history and physicals for all hospitalized admissions.
Advise patients regarding health and illness prevention; instruct patients and families regarding medications and treatment instructions.
Provide patient education.
Perform independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
Write and refill prescriptions (subject to state laws and PA’s scope of practice).
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree and successful completion of an accredited physician assistant program.
Experience: Four years of health care experience prior to applying to the PA program, plus one year of experience as a PA, preferably in a clinic setting.
Licensure: National certification from the National Commission on Certification of PA; state PA license required. Current CPR certificate required.
Knowledge: Medical model and roles of physicians and physician assistants. Familiarity with anatomy, pharmacology, pathophysiology, clinical medicine, and physical diagnosis.
Skills: Ability to gather and analyze physiological, socioeconomic, and emotional patient data; ability to accurately evaluate patient problems and provide appropriate advice, intervention, or referral; ability to develop and revise patient care plans based on patient status.
Abilities: Make responsible decisions within scope of PA practice; collaborate effectively with physicians; educate patients, families, and staff; demonstrate eye–hand coordination, full range of motion, and manual dexterity.
