Temporary - Full Time Assistant Athletic Trainer
Location: Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, NC. This temporary 10‑month assignment is open to new graduates.
Position Overview The Assistant Athletic Trainer reports directly to the Director of Athletic Training Services/Head Athletic Trainer and is responsible for day‑to‑day sports medicine operations for one or more NCAA Division II teams and the cheer squad.
Responsibilities
Oversee all sports medicine operations for assigned teams with minimal supervision.
Prevent, evaluate, treat, and rehabilitate student‑athlete injuries and illnesses within the university’s comprehensive sports medicine program.
Maintain accurate documentation using an electronic medical record system.
Complete required insurance claims and ensure compliance with privacy regulations (FERPA, HIPAA, etc.).
Communicate daily with coaching staff, provide routine reports and correspondence.
Collaborate with team orthopedic practice and team physicians.
Schedule and coordinate medical appointments; maintain communication with Student Health Services for non‑orthopedic illnesses.
Advocate and provide resources for nutrition and mental health.
Attend designated team practices and events.
Work flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, often over 40 hours per week.
Travel and cover away events pending sport assignment.
Maintain and upkeep athletic training equipment and facilities.
Uphold policies and procedures set by the university, CIAA Conference, and NCAA.
Assist with administrative duties as agreed with the Director of Athletic Training Services.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from a CAATE‑approved Athletic Training Education Program.
Board of Certification (BOC) for Athletic Trainer.
Current North Carolina state licensure or eligibility for application.
Current CPR and First Aid certifications.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Effective oral and written communication with all groups.
Strict confidentiality and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
Manage multiple concurrent projects and meet strict deadlines.
Detail‑oriented and adaptable to changing environments.
