Compensation and Bonuses

Up to a $25,000 bonus for registered nurses who are new to state service and remain with the facility for 2 years.

$15,000 sign‑on bonus awarded to new hires to state service with a one‑year written agreement required.

Additional $10,000 retention bonus for new hires hired after December 10, 2023. Paid one year after hire date and requiring a one‑year written agreement.

Shift Differentials

1st shift weekend: $5.50 per hour

2nd shift weekday: $5.50 per hour

2nd shift weekend/holidays: $6.00 per hour

3rd shift weekday: $4.00 per hour

3rd shift weekend/holidays: $7.00 per hour

Responsibilities

Provide advanced nursing care for patients with psychiatric disorders in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, nursing standards, and regulations.

Safely implement the use of seclusion/ restraints, including knowledge of physical and emotional risk factors of the patients served at the facility.

Conduct patient assessments, develop and implement nursing care plans, and evaluate patient responses.

Collaborate with interdisciplinary team, supervise and evaluate nursing processes, and delegate as appropriate.

Document nursing care and maintain accurate records.

Work nights (7:00 pm‑7:30 am) in a 12‑hour, non‑rotating Pitman schedule; may be required to work overtime and weekends on a rotating basis.

Complete a consecutive 4‑week New Employee Orientation for on‑the‑job training, including night shift exposure.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience working as a Registered Nurse.

Current and in good standing Registered Nurse license to practice in Virginia or license eligible; multi‑state compact endorsement accepted.

Valid driver’s license.

Additional Requirements

Knowledge of nursing theory and psychiatric nursing practice.

Knowledge of psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery models.

Completion of BLS, Therapeutic Options (TO), and other required training upon employment.

Effective interpersonal communication skills and team‑focused, professional approach.

Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders, and cultural needs.

Experience and ability to delegate, supervise, and evaluate nursing processes to solve complex problems.

Additional Considerations

Experience as a registered nurse in a psychiatric, acute care, long‑term or correctional setting.

Veteran status and National Service experience.

Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English.
