Job Description The Reg Rad Tech 1 arranges patients for radiological examinations. Produces radiographs (x-rays)/ images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Uses pre-established imaging protocols and departmental policy to perform safe operation of imaging equipment and all functions of the job. Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family. Initially, may require instruction and guidance to accomplish the job and should develop into performing work under general supervision. Reports to Supervisor or Manager.
Responsibilities
Exhibits working knowledge of all Diagnostic Radiology equipment and procedures.
Refers to physician's orders/chart for any special instructions that may be indicated.
Routinely questions the patient before procedure to obtain patient history.
Explains procedure completely to facilitate cooperation and alleviate anxiety.
Performs all procedures in an efficient and timely manner without compromising quality or the mission statement.
Coordinates Radiology schedule with other areas to prevent patient waiting.
Corrects and reports accidents, incidents and safety hazards.
Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) when appropriate.
Is aware of potential chemical hazards and how to access MSDS information.
Uses good body mechanics when moving patients.
Adheres to infection control practices.
Asks females of child bearing age if they may be pregnant.
Uses proper Radiation shielding for pediatric patients and patients in child bearing age.
Routinely wears film badge to monitor Radiation exposure.
Completes Annual Mandate Radiation Safety.
Wears proper Radiation protection equipment while doing procedures.
Routinely performs proper tube warm-up for all x-ray equipment.
Reports all equipment problems to chief technologist and places service call through call center.
Completes Exam Data Entry fields on all exams.
Documents all pertinent information, i.e., patient history, tech initials.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Is available to work a rotating on-call schedule to ensure 24 hour coverage of the Radiology Department.
Assists in other areas of the department as workload permits.
Keeps areas well stocked at all times.
Consistently performs 12 organizational Service Standards focused on Values, Service and Quality.
Qualifications
2 years of clinical training in an AMA approved program.
Post High School Vocational/Specialized Training.
American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT). New Graduates, Registry Eligible for ARRT and current Louisiana Registered Radiologic license (LSRT) or current LSRT temp license and BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification.
