Program Overview The Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program operates on the campus of Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee and at Sunland in Marianna under the auspices of the State of Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities (APD). The program is dedicated to empowering persons with developmental disabilities charged with a felony crime to acquire skills and support that prepare them for success in their future environments and to become competent to stand trial.
Position Summary Duties and responsibilities of a Senior Licensed Practical Nurse F/C include the professional medical care, health, safety, and well‑being of residents ordered by court custody to the Developmental Disabilities Defendant Program, a 24/7 treatment and training facility. Specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Prepare and document medication administration and/or refusals, perform quality control protocols on medications received from pharmacy against physician orders, ensure accurate medication records, observe effectiveness and adverse reactions, and document accordingly.
Perform direct nursing care functions as ordered/prescribed and in compliance with applicable policies and within scope of practice, including medication administration (IM, subq, intradermal, etc.), vital sign monitoring, intake and output, phlebotomy, wound care, radiological exam preparation, salve/bandage applications, laboratory specimen collection, EKGs, etc.
Document in compliance with professional nursing standards and DDDP policies and procedures, providing data for quality resident care.
Evaluate resident complaints and notify the RN, ARNP, or physician as indicated.
Attend staff meetings and maintain a clean, organized work environment with functional medical equipment and supplies stocked appropriately.
Receive nursing reports, maintain accurate daily nursing reports, and hand off information to relieving nurses for continuity of care.
Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge procedures of residents.
Maintain accurate timesheets and submit timely according to policy.
Complete all required training and maintain MANDT certification as required.
Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques.
Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
Skill in using medical equipment and instruments for nursing care.
Manual dexterity in providing nursing care.
Ability to administer medications and treatments.
Ability to work with patients.
Ability to interpret and follow medical instructions.
Ability to observe patients’ symptoms and reactions to treatment.
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively.

Minimum Qualifications
Licensure as a Practical Nurse in accordance with Florida Statute 464 or eligibility to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrator Code 210‑8.27 and one year of experience in providing practical nursing services.
Valid driver’s license.
Work Schedule This position is located at a 24‑hour facility. Team members must be willing to work a shift schedule that includes regular, evening, or night shifts. Days off vary. Employees may be required to work additional days/hours based on facility needs and those we serve, including coverage, activities, holidays, and emergencies.
