Soliciting applications for the Registered Nurse – CVICU position at Tucson Medical Center.
Summary Coordinates patient care planning with other disciplines utilizing nursing process and critical thinking skills to maintain patient safety and well‑being. (Some positions may be assigned to critical care areas requiring specialized training.)
Essential Functions
Provides direct patient care, evaluates outcomes, and consults with specialists as required.
Writes or obtains initial nursing histories, assesses patients' conditions, and develops individual care plans while maintaining documentation.
Receives and reviews preceding shift reports, performs complete rounds of all units, and notes patients' conditions.
Notifies physicians of any unusual or unexpected events requiring direct consultation.
Works with interdisciplinary team members, implements and reinforces patient instructional needs, and provides educational material to patients and families.
Evaluates outcomes of patient care, consults with specialists as needed, and adjusts nursing processes for optimal outcomes.
Identifies and resolves workplace health and safety issues.
Provides appropriate, direct patient care using aseptic techniques.
Manages IV lines, ensures sterile technique compliance, and oversees patient positioning for safe handling.
Performs administration of pharmacologic vasodilator medications for nuclear myocardial perfusion imaging as per Imaging Services Practice Standards.
Complies with policies, procedures, regulations, and standards, taking corrective action when violations occur.
Orients, instructs, and educates assigned personnel.
Assesses psychological needs of patients and families (for Behavioral Health RN role) and provides discharge planning.
Assists physicians with EP procedures (pacemaker, defibrillator, angiograms, ablations) and operates electrophysiology recording systems.
Oversees EP area, coordinates with Cardiac Cath Lab lead, and provides recommendations for staffing, scheduling, and efficiency.
Adheres to TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication.

Performs related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of an accredited nursing program. (Some positions require additional training related to EP, including instructional programs in intravascular echocardiography and EP with 30 ablation procedures.)
Experience:
One year of nursing experience in an acute care setting preferred. Positions assigned to EP require two (2) years of EP experience or demonstrated competency in all EP lab procedures.
Licensure/Certification:
Current RN licensure in Arizona and Basic Life Support (BLS). Certain departments (OR, Pediatrics, PICU, PACU, GI Lab) require Advanced Life Support (ACLS, PALS). Additional certifications may be required for specialties such as Neonatal Resuscitation, EP certification from the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners, or Mental Health CPI. Hospice & Pediatrics areas require a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of direct patient care and critical care procedures and techniques.
Knowledge of examination indicators, contraindications and patient preparation.
Skill in clear and concise communication with staff and physicians.
Skill in reading 12‑lead ECG.
Skill demonstrated in assigned disciplines such as EP.
Ability to read and interpret safety rules, procedures, and manuals.
Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to listen and accurately interpret instructions to take appropriate action.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret extensive instructions and manage multiple variables.
NICU only: Ability to provide family‑centered, developmentally appropriate care of newborns and manage associated emotional stress.
