Job Summary The Surgical Tech II PRN facilitates patient care by assisting physicians and nursing staff before, during, and after surgical procedures. The role creates and maintains a sterile field and provides the instruments and supplies required by surgeons in a sterile manner, following established patient‑care plans. The candidate must be able to perform competently most cases in the service during a given shift.
Position Details
PRN; Saturdays & Sundays; day or night shifts available.
Flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
Responsibilities
Assist the surgeon before, during, and after surgical procedures.
Plan, set up, perform, and clean up assigned procedures as a circulator and as a scrub tech.
Perform sharp, sponge, and instrument counts according to policy.
Apply Principles of Asepsis to create and maintain a sterile field.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Graduate of an approved surgical‑technologist program or successful completion of a surgical‑technologist training program during service in the U.S. armed forces.
Required Certification:
Certification from one of the following issuers:
NBSTSA CST – National Board of Surgical Technologists and Surgical Assistants, Certified Surgical Technologist.
NCCT – TSC – National Center for Competency Testing, Tech in Surgery.
Preferred:
2 years of relevant work experience.
Exceptions:
No certification required for graduates of armed‑forces surgical‑technologist training.
Technical Capabilities
Equipment Maintenance – fundamental awareness.
Surgical Technology – novice application; moderate difficulty.
Inventory Management – fundamental awareness.
Environmental Sterility & Safety – fundamental awareness.
Operating Room Care – novice proficiency.
Procedures Knowledge – fundamental awareness.
Surgical Equipment Knowledge – novice proficiency.
