Job Summary The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) I provides administrative, clinical nursing, health education, and outreach services within the community health center. Basic physical assessment skills include observation, auscultation, palpation, and percussion. Basic mental status assessment includes observation of behavior, appearance, and attitude, data collection on sensorium and orientation, and assessment of recall ability. When the LVN notes a problem or abnormality, he/she must notify the physician or Registered Nursing Supervisor. The LVN cannot independently evaluate or synthesize data.

Reports To

Direct & Administrative: Registered Nurse Supervisor, Program Manager, Clinic Administrator or designee

Technical/Clinical: Licensed Independent Practitioner in consultation with the Director of Nursing Services or designee

Qualifications

Entry-level position; experience in practical nursing desirable, preferably in an ambulatory patient facility.

High school graduate or GED equivalency.

Completion of a state-approved program in vocational nursing and current license to practice in California.

Current Cardio‑Pulmonary Resuscitation certification, in compliance with corporate CPR policy.

Dependable, reliable, and willing to accept a variety of tasks; quick to comprehend and follow instructions accurately.

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate tactfully and empathetically with cultural sensitivity to staff, patients, and families.

Willing and able to work a varied and flexible schedule to accommodate NEVHC and patient needs.

Knowledge and skills necessary to provide age‑appropriate care; ability to identify and categorize age‑specific group needs.

Fluency in English (speaks, reads, writes).

Fluency in Spanish (speaks, interprets, reads, writes).

Strict confidentiality regarding health care and patient information.

Proficient use of electronic medical records for intake, documentation, and appointment scheduling.

Willingness to submit fingerprints for School Base Clinic positions, per California Dept. of Justice, with no adverse findings.

Current California driver’s license, appropriate insurance coverage, and acceptable driving record, if required to drive on the job.
