Job Summary As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will treat patients requiring physical therapy under the direction of a Physical Therapist. You will review physical therapist interpretations of patient evaluations and test results, interview patients, perform physical examinations, recommend options and courses of action to physical therapists, provide normal growth and development information, and promote wellness and health maintenance.

Responsibilities

Observe patients during treatments to compile and evaluate data on their responses and progress, and provide results to the physical therapist in person or through progress notes.

Fit patients for orthopedic braces, prostheses, or supportive devices such as crutches as needed per site.

Instruct patients and their families in appropriate exercise programs and in the use of equipment.

Clean work area and check and store equipment after treatment.

Confer with physical therapy staff or others to discuss and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, or coordinating treatment.

Document treatments and notes as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Comply with all policies and standards.

Education / Degree

Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Licensed (and in good standing) as a physical therapist assistant in the state of Rhode Island.

Required Skills

BLS required.

Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.

Basic skills in math and computer science.

Appropriate knowledge of physical therapy treatment techniques to manage the rehabilitation population.

Effective problem‑solving skills for physical therapy treatment planning and execution, taking into consideration patient age, psychosocial, cultural, and religious background.

Basic skills in teaching others and in self‑assessment of learning needs, strengths, and professional goals.

Safely execute all job responsibilities without risking injury to self or patients; demonstrate the ability to assess and interact with patients and families using theories of human growth and development, family systems, and cultural background.

Computer proficiency required. Microsoft Office applications preferred with ability to learn new software.

Maintain a variable work schedule depending on hospital/program needs to provide patient care (evening, holidays, weekend, and travel).
