Job Overview The Veterinary Medical Center at The Ohio State University is searching for a Veterinary Care Technician Supervisor ECC: Performs all the duties as a Veterinary Care Technician – Tier III while coordinating clinical support activities for the service area and supervising staff including RVTs and Veterinary Assistants. The role assists a veterinarian in technical procedures and activities involving animal health and disease within the specialty area of Emergency Critical Care. The successful candidate will aid clinicians and care‑giving colleagues with the reception, treatment, and monitoring of all patients within the Emergency Critical Care unit and may float or cross‑train through various areas to develop skills and techniques.
Responsibilities
Focus on quality patient care and provide guidance, direction, supervision, and assistance to veterinary care staff to achieve optimum patient outcomes in the Emergency Critical Care clinical area.
Organize, direct, and assist professional students, clinicians, residents, and technical students during receiving appointment hours; demonstrate high‑level competence in emergent and non‑emergent veterinary care situations, including client communications.
Manage complex, predictable and unpredictable veterinary care situations, including specialized medical procedures such as blood transfusions, ventilator setup, laboratory and diagnostic interpretation, and emergency surgeries.
Supervise technical and non‑technical staff within the service; manage the search process including selection and interviews; train staff on best practices in patient care.
Monitor staff performance and complete each phase of the performance‑management process; coordinate staff schedules, approve time and leave, and develop, update, and maintain new‑hire training manuals and plans.
Provide direct instruction and orientation to veterinary and veterinary‑technician students; ensure accurate recording of charges in client records; work with faculty and the Assistant Director of Patient Care to develop and maintain SOPs for the service.
Assist with other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Registered Veterinary Technician through the Ohio Veterinary Medical Licensing Board.
Must pass the Veterinary Technician National Exam.
3 years of relevant experience required; 4–8 years preferred.
Hiring Range $33.37 – $43.88 per hour

Pushing, pulling, or lifting up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to animal dander and/or zoonotic diseases.
Exposure to needle sticks, hazardous chemicals, and/or bio‑hazardous waste.
Location: Veterinary Medical Center (0299).

Scheduled Hours: 40.
Shift: Second Shift.
