The Surgical Technologist - Neurosurgery & Spine Specialist is a highly skilled and experienced member of the surgical team responsible for providing technical assistance to surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals during surgical procedures. This position requires specialized knowledge and expertise in neurosurgical and spinal procedures, including instrumentation, equipment, and surgical techniques. The ideal candidate will be proficient in anticipating the needs of the surgeon, maintaining a sterile environment, and ensuring patient safety throughout the surgical process. While specializing in Neurosurgery and Spine, the Surgical Technologist will also be expected to support other surgical service lines as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Position is responsible for providing expert perioperative patient care through the use of equipment and instrumentation. Position functions as a scrub assistant to the physician performing operative and/or invasive procedures. Works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and as outlined in the Surgical Technologist Skills Inventory; uses knowledge/expertise to act as a role model and resource for other staff. Position must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served as well as knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles. Responsibilities
Full time; 6:30am-7pm, days varied Call required CST and BLS (American Heart Assoc) required 2+years of Neuro/Spine experience preferred The role supports unit goals and facilitates unit operations as a resource specialist for an assigned operating room area/specialty service. Performs duties with aseptic technique and advanced surgical techniques appropriate to elective and emergency situations; maintains patient care standards and safety. Verifies functioning and availability of supplies/instruments/equipment prior to procedures; adheres to asepsis principles for optimal patient care in the OR. Maintains safe patient care within policies, procedures, standards of care, and budgetary considerations. Supports professional growth and development; may serve as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff; provides orientation and in-service training as needed. Models Memorial Hermann service standards by providing safe, caring, personalized and efficient experiences to patients and colleagues. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education:
Graduate of a Surgical Technologist Program Licenses/Certifications:
Certified in Basic Life Support; current Certification as a Surgical Technologist by the NBSTSA or the NCCT Experience / Knowledge / Skills:
