Lab Technician – Cheese

A Typical Day Perform daily finished‑product and in‑process analysis on cheese samples; carry out in‑process sampling and other assigned job responsibilities. Ensure accurate and timely flow of information to operations, product release teams, site and corporate QA. Support production quality. Perform basic maintenance and troubleshoot lab instruments.
Job Responsibilities
Efficiently perform lab sample pulling and analysis on finished and in‑process cheese products.
Read, study, understand and implement published lab procedures and tasks; perform testing with minimal input when new tasks are introduced.
Be flexible and perform multiple tests and steps simultaneously.
Input report results and take initiative to act on data.
Follow instructions completely and in detail.
Work with minimal supervision.
Comply with EMP and proficiency studies.
Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrate proficiency on position‑specific needs analysis requirements.
Complete annual OSHA safety training.
Complete annual First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
Complete emergency response training including 24‑hour initial and 8‑hour refresher each year.
Complete company safety training program(s).
Complete annual food safety overview training.
Actively participate and own training and development activities.
Coach and train teammates and participate in job‑buddy training.
Prioritize food safety and sanitation by executing HCC’s policies.
Hold self and others accountable to HCC’s food safety & sanitation guidelines.
Participate in safety root‑cause analysis and improvement activities when required.
Prioritize safety above all other duties, maintaining a safety‑first approach.
Report safety issues, observations, opportunities, and follow up.Participate in departmental safety teams.
Promote company culture.
Achieve common business goals through cooperative alignment with all departments.
What You Will Need
Proficient English reading, writing, and speaking skills.
High‑school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
At least 4 months of laboratory or production experience (high‑school science courses may count).
Willingness to work weekends, holidays, rotating shifts (day/swing/graveyard) and overtime as required.
Ability to lift 45 lb.
What Will Put You Ahead
Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
6 months of laboratory or production experience.
Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or related field.
Physical Demands & Work Environment This role requires physical exertion, exposure to hazardous conditions or safety hazards. The majority of time is spent walking or standing, with occasional sedentary periods. PPE is required, and a regular presence on manufacturing and warehouse sites in both temperature‑controlled and uncontrolled locations is necessary. Frequent verbal interaction with people is required. Specific details of the essential functions are available in the Job Safety Analysis upon request.
