Pulmonary Therapist - Cardiac Rehab

The Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Specialist functions within the healthcare team as a professional caregiver who provides quality care to patients and their families. The Specialist provides care to the adult and geriatric cardiac and/or pulmonary patient in telemetry monitoring, exercise, education, and psychosocial support. Collaborates with other disciplines in assessment, implementation, development of care plan, and evaluation of outcomes. Also assists with Cardiac Holter monitor application, removal, and scanning.
Competencies
Must be proficient in Microsoft Word with basic knowledge of Excel and Outlook.
Exceptional interpersonal, organizational and time management skills are required.
Must have excellent verbal and written command of the English language and effective communication skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES And RESPONSIBILITIES
Assess the patient’s condition and care needs by collecting accurate data on admission, explain the Cardiac or Pulmonary Rehab program in detail and perform a six (6) minute endurance walk with the patient.
Assess patient and or family learning needs, including readiness to learn. Identify and arrange appropriate resources to assist the educational process.
Conduct education classes for the patient and significant others as per education calendar using appropriate teaching modules and document in the patient’s chart.
Accurately complete necessary documentation including running daily and multi-session reports according to departmental policy.
Participate in department QI and KPIs, data collection and reporting, and policy and procedure maintenance.
Assess patient’s response to exercise and modify exercise prescription accordingly as per MD order and department policy.
Collaborate with the Registered Nurse to develop a Plan of Care, formulating short- and long-term goals and documenting progress toward expected outcomes.
Supervise exercise sessions for the Cardiac and Pulmonary patient, monitoring cardiovascular responses through blood pressure, telemetry, and RPE scale.
Identify cardiac rhythms accurately and initiate appropriate interventions.
Anticipate emergency situations and take action to minimize or prevent negative outcomes, demonstrating ability to organize and delegate appropriately.
Represent the Cardiac Rehabilitation Department to the community through community‑based programs to increase awareness of heart disease prevention and treatment.
Maintain professional growth through seminars, self‑study, workshops, and professional affiliations.
Handle Cardiac Holter monitor application, removal, and proper documentation associated with the exam.
Scan Cardiac Holter monitor, recognizing artifact versus arrhythmia in preparation for physician interpretation.
Qualifications
Education: B.S. in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Health/Fitness, or related field.
BCLS/ACLS certification upon hire strongly preferred or to be obtained within 90 days and maintained.
EP-C or CEP Certification from the ACSM strongly preferred or to be obtained within 90 days and maintained.
One (1) year in a health field preferred.
