Nurse Practitioner Acute Care, Practice Plan - Center for Interventional Psychiatry UTHealth Houston Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences' Center for Interventional Psychiatry is looking for a Nurse Practitioner with experience working with mental health/psychiatry patients. This role offers the unique opportunity to work with groundbreaking interventions for treatment-resistant depression, such as Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Spravato/Esketamine treatments. The NP will be comfortable with mental health assessments, monitoring TMS and Spravato procedures, supporting multiple high‑acuity patients in a fast‑paced outpatient clinic, and psychiatric medication management. Experience with Epic, diagnosing MDD and other psychiatric/mental health disorders, and interventional psychiatric modalities is ideal. Position Summary Provides advanced nursing care to patients with complex acute, critical, and/or chronic health conditions in a clinic or hospital setting in one or more specialized areas under the direction of a physician.

Position Key Accountabilities

Conduct complex standardized patient care procedures beyond scope of medicine but not constituting practice of medicine.

Conduct independent and physician‑supervised rounding on unit.

Perform relevant patient evaluations and assessments; provide appropriate treatment, monitoring, and medication ordering.

Coordinate, direct, and implement the patient’s plan of care.

Assist in collecting patient histories, screen for comorbidities, and provide guidance and preventative health care as needed.

Perform physical examinations; provide episodic or problem‑oriented care under physician supervision.

Order appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and radiographic tests and interpret results.

Monitor treatment program and inform attending physician of pertinent medical information.

Facilitate patient education regarding medical processes, medication, nutrition, and health promotion or preventative health care.

Assist physicians in formulating therapeutic decisions.

Maintain appropriate records, prepare charts for physician review and counter‑signature.

Prepare and care for supplies and equipment.

Respond to emergency situations.

Operate within scope of practice prescribed by licensure and certification.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Certification / Skills Required: RN State Licensure (or Nurse Licensure Compact) from Texas Board of Nursing; Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Nurse Practitioner (APRN‑NP) from Texas Board of Nursing; Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association; Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification.

Minimum Education Masters in Nursing as NP or Masters in Nursing with completion of a post‑masters Nurse Practitioner Certification Program.

Minimum Experience None required; previous experience in area of clinical focus preferred.

Physical Requirements Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds frequently, or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.

Security Sensitive

Position is security‑sensitive pursuant to Texas Education Code 51.215 and Texas Government Code 411.094.

Performance may involve research, work on, or access to critical infrastructure as defined in Texas Business and Commerce Code.

Requires ability to maintain security or integrity of infrastructure; position subject to routine review for criminal history or connections to foreign adversary.
