Peterson Consulting Group is actively hiring a Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction efforts for large-scale heavy civil infrastructure projects in the Denver market. This role is ideal for an experienced estimator who can take ownership of complex pursuits, mentor junior estimators, and play a strategic role in winning work across DOT highway, land development, and major earthwork scopes.

Position Overview The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading and preparing detailed contract proposal estimates across multiple heavy civil disciplines. This role partners closely with leadership, operations, and project management to develop competitive bid strategies and accurate cost models.
Key Responsibilities
Lead proposal estimates for heavy civil construction, with an emphasis on earthwork and infrastructure scopes
Perform and/or oversee detailed quantity takeoffs for mass haul, site balance, scraper and haul truck spreads, shrink/swell analysis, and utility work
Review plans, specifications, and contract documents to define scope, risk, and pricing strategy
Develop and validate comprehensive cost estimates using current labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing
Maintain and refine estimating cost databases and production rates
Evaluate design alternatives and recommend optimal solutions based on cost, constructability, and schedule
Solicit, analyze, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier bids
Collaborate with operations, project managers, and leadership during bid reviews and handoff meetings
Mentor and support junior estimators and preconstruction staff
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred) — or equivalent experience
5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
Strong expertise in earthwork operations, including mass haul and site balance
Proven ability to lead estimates on complex, high‑value civil projects
Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
Proficiency with industry software including: HCSS HeavyBid, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Primavera P6, BuildingConnected, and Viewpoint
