Phlebotomists specialize in drawing blood from patients. Their responsibilities include interviewing and preparing patients for blood draws, following strict safety procedures to limit the risk of contact with infectious blood and bodily fluids, and ensuring accurate record‑keeping and labeling to match specimens with the correct tests. Duties and Responsibilities

Accurately identify patients using a wristband, documents, or known visual identification. Receive assignments and assemble the supplies and equipment required for specimen collection according to established standards, policies, and procedures. Accurately identify priorities such as Stat, timed, or routine. Determine the appropriate venipuncture method based on patient age and health. Reassure patients and help them relax. Find suitable veins for puncture. Draw blood using proper equipment and techniques. Keep all sharps, needles, and equipment out of reach of patients and dispose of them and all medical waste properly. Follow the proper test‑tube order of draw. Use appropriate personal protective equipment. Ensure optimal quality and quantity of samples for the required tests. Label test tubes correctly and send or deliver them for testing. Do not attempt to draw blood from any patient more than two times and request assistance if necessary. Answer patient questions and provide useful information. Keep accurate patient records. Adhere to all relevant health and safety standards while working. Monitor patients for reactions and equipment operations. Educate patients on immediate after‑care. Maintain a clean and sanitary workspace. If trained on specimen storage and centrifugation, use all appropriate procedures. Ensure patient confidentiality. Attend all required company meetings and training programs. Requirements

High school degree or equivalent. Phlebotomy Technician certificate preferred. If without a certificate, completion of a hospital or major laboratory training program. Understanding of standard blood‑drawing practices and procedures. At least 2 years proven experience as a phlebotomist. Good interpersonal skills and communication. Flexible to work nights, evenings, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts. Strict adherence to safety regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques. Valid state‑issued driver’s license with a good driving record. Adequate automobile insurance. Access to a vehicle in good driving condition.
