Senior Patient Care Tech – Student Extern

Responsibilities The Sr. Patient Care Tech Student Extern works under the direction of a Registered Nurse, performing direct and indirect patient care. Direct patient care includes bathing, assisting with elimination, feeding, bedmaking, safety observation, blood glucose checks, vital signs measurement, urinary catheter insertion/care, dressing changes, and phlebotomy. Indirect care involves documentation, reinforcing patient/family education, stocking supplies, and orienting patients and staff to the unit. The role also collaborates with other team members on additional duties as directed.
Qualifications
High School diploma or GED
Currently accepted into an accredited nursing school (must provide an acceptance letter upon hire)
Completed at least the first semester of nursing school (must provide official transcripts upon hire)
Experience performing basic patient care tasks such as bathing, feeding, vitals, activities of daily living, transportation, IV discontinuation, phlebotomy, Accucheck, catheter care, dressing changes, and restraints
Exposure to blood and body fluids may be possible
Ability to use a computer for documentation and work‑related purposes
Strong written, verbal, and non‑verbal interpersonal and professional communication skills
Accountability for own actions and courteous service orientation
Ability to prioritize, organize, and multi‑task
Easily takes direction while remaining self‑directed and motivated
High degree of responsibility and responsiveness
Handles patients, visitors, and care team interactions with emotional control
Additional Requirements
Must be able to lift
Must be available for one week of full‑time training
