About the Emergency Department Aurora Sinai Medical Center’s Emergency Department, located in downtown Milwaukee, serves approximately 60,000 patients annually. The newly renovated 42‑bed department features fast‑track, general medical, and critical care rooms. The ED is a Level IV trauma facility and has received numerous awards for cardiovascular and stroke care.

Major Responsibilities
Use the nursing process to assess patient needs, plan and implement care, and evaluate outcomes, with patient and family involvement.
Anticipate and recognize significant changes in patient condition, and alter the care plan as needed.
Implement strategies to reduce patient risk and increase safety, tailoring education to patient and family readiness.
Coordinate discharge plans using an interdisciplinary approach and apply evidence‑based practice.
Evaluate team and unit outcomes and take appropriate action; support shared governance and quality initiatives.
Communicate effectively, resolve conflicts, and promote collaboration among healthcare team members.
Promote a culture of safety by identifying threats, reporting events, and implementing corrective actions.
Apply ethical decision making and respect other disciplines.
Participate in quality/process improvement initiatives and professional development activities.
Demonstrate age‑specific knowledge and skills as outlined in departmental policies.
Licensure & Certification
Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association.
Education Required
Completion of an accredited nursing program.
Experience Required
One year of ED or ICU RN experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Holistic patient care with a patient and family focus.
Ability to recognize situational changes and respond with confidence.
Proficient computer skills, including use of EMR systems.
Excellent written, verbal, listening, and interpersonal communication.
Human relation skills and ability to build rapport with patients, families, and staff.
Critical independent decision‑making capability.
Strong organization, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills.
Time management with multitasking in a high‑interruption environment.
Coordination, collaboration, delegation, and team‑building skills.
Certification Addendum
Maintain annual educational requirements for hospital‑based certifications (e.g., DNV, CARF).
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach, and twist frequently.
Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist and 20 lbs over the head; carry 40 lbs a reasonable distance; push/pull 30 lbs of force; perform a 150‑lb sliding transfer with a second person.
Use foot pedals on carts or machines.
Potential exposure to chemicals, hazardous waste, blood, bodily fluids, and communicable diseases; appropriate protective equipment must be worn.
Functional speech, vision, hearing, and fine‑hand manipulation for IV insertion and other procedures.
Operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.
