RN Clinical Nurse II (Per Diem) – Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU West)
Join UNC Health as an RN Clinical Nurse II in our Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU West). The position offers 12 standard hours per week, variable shift schedule, and a competitive salary range of $33.88–$47.91 per hour based on experience and internal equity.
About the Unit The UNC REX Post Anesthesia Care Unit is divided into two units: PACU East with 22 PACU bays and 8 OR Holding & Preoperative bays, and PACU West with 13 Phase I bays and 20 Phase II bays. PACU West manages a diverse patient mix—including orthopedics, neuro, thoracic, general, bariatrics, plastic, urology, and endoscopy—as well as adult and pediatric populations and medical diagnostic procedures.
Responsibilities
Education – Participate in identifying and meeting learning needs, attend education programs, and use patient education materials relevant to patient populations.
Evaluation of Care – Identify expected patient outcomes, revise care plans as needed, and discuss patient care with interdisciplinary team members.
Implementation – Provide competent care for patients with complex problems, perform bedside point‑of‑care testing, and prioritize care based on patient/family needs.
Leadership – Develop professional growth goals, collaborate on unit goals and performance improvement, and promote cost‑effective care.
Patient Assessment – Determine priorities from assessment data, synthesize information, and anticipate discharge needs.
Planning – Collaborate with patients and families to update care plans, use multidisciplinary resources, and address cultural and ethnic issues.
Research – Review applicable journals, bring ideas to staff for assessment of applicability.
Education Requirements
Graduation from a school of professional nursing.
Licensure/Certification Requirements
Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina.
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
Professional Experience Requirements
One (1) year of relevant and current experience.
