Medical Laboratory Scientist II – Chantilly, VA – Tuesday to Saturday, 9:00 PM to 5:30 AM
Department: Clinical Lab – Auto Chemistry Pay range: $35.78+ per hour. Employees may be eligible for a shift differential of 10% for second shift hours and 15% for third shift hours. Responsibilities
Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot all applicable instruments/procedures in the department. Provide support to the department in quality control, troubleshooting complex problems, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects as assigned. Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP) ensuring quality control requirements are met. Actively support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results including STAT or critical results to clients. Ensure reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and if applicable opened dates. Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function. Make quality control decisions regarding the disposition of an assay or test. Inform supervisory personnel of all problems affecting test procedures. Report any actual or potential deviation from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate fully with any investigation. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reporting to physicians. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assist supervisor with training of other laboratory personnel as needed. Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and work practice controls as directed by management. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. Assume lead responsibilities in the absence of a supervisor, if qualified and delegated. Perform other duties as assigned. Required Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in a biological, chemical, physical science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution. U.S.-educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript. Foreign-educated candidates must provide a credential evaluation from the National Association Credential Evaluation Services, Inc. (NACES) or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). Preferred Certifications:
ASCP certification is a plus. Required Work Experience:
One (1) year full‑time experience or training in a clinical laboratory setting with high‑complexity testing. Preferred Work Experience:
Minimum 3 years clinical experience with most recent years in the present department. Physical and Mental Requirements:
Lifting and carrying objects up to 25 pounds frequently, 36–50 pounds seldomly; ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods; frequent walking and/or standing; manual dexterity for pipettes and instruments. Knowledge:
Comprehensive theoretical and operational job knowledge in the designated specialty; knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures. Skills:
Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills; detail‑oriented; ability to work independently and set priorities for multiple tasks; interpersonal skills for courteous and effective communication with supervisors, co‑workers, and clients; telephone inquiry handling; confidentiality; proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
