Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License or active compact state RN license that is in good standing with American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification valid for at least 6 months after employment date.

Physical and Work Requirements The essential functions include the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently; stand, walk, and sit for long periods. The job may involve exposure to communicable diseases, radiation hazards, and injury from sharp instruments.

Shift Schedule Shifts start times: 7 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m., or 7 p.m. Must work three 12‑hour shifts per week including weekends and holidays.

Job Summary Registered Nurses in Pediatric Emergency Services at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for patients from infancy to age 17. The Emergency Department is divided into triage, chair‑centric/express care, acute care (16 beds), and critical care (8 beds) areas. The UK Level I Trauma Center offers 8 beds for complex injured patients.

Primary Responsibilities

Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, patient‑centered care using the nursing process.

Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate comprehensive nursing plans of care.

Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.

Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).

Adhere to University policies and procedures and federal, state, and local regulations.

Collaborate with nursing staff and physicians to enhance communication and improve patient outcomes.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Knowledge of Maslow’s eight basic human needs and Gordon’s Functional Health Patterns and Swanson’s Caring model.

Superb direct patient care and critical‑thinking skills.

Basic computer navigation and internet proficiency.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients, families, coworkers, and physicians.

Strong organizational, prioritization, and delegation skills.

Motivated, proactive, and confident advocate for patients and families.

Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Education / Experience BSN + at least 1 year of RN experience.
