JOB SUMMARY Works under minimal supervision to safely operate vehicles in efficient transportation of medicine, laboratory specimens, slides, tissues, urine, bone marrow, and organs to on‑campus and off‑campus locations. Specimens must arrive at labs viable and at appropriate temperature for testing (whether ambient, refrigerated, or frozen).

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION Required
Education
High School diploma or GED
Experience
2 years full‑time paid experience in medical transportation or a combination of education & experience. Experience must include operation of various types of motor vehicles, such as university or company‑owned or leased cars, vans, mini‑buses, etc.
Licenses and Certifications (DRIVERS)
Clean driving record and valid Texas Driver's license upon hire.
JOB DUTIES
Ensures completion of medical specimen training (Bloodborne Pathogens, Exposure Control, Transportation, Specimen Integrity, HIPAA Awareness, etc.) & Driver Safety training upon hire & as required annually.
Safely operates vehicle in day‑to‑day transportation of medical shipments to ensure timely lab results.
Performs correct scans, manages manifest to deliver within established delivery windows, and properly operates handheld device for real‑time dispatch communication & accurate specimen tracking.
Picks‑up and delivers pharmaceutical and medical shipments to UTSW main campus & satellite locations.
Runs stat patient specimens for surgery & pre‑surgery within a 15‑minute window for expedited results.
Learns multiple routes and may fill in on an as needed basis.
Maintains vehicle operating records for needed maintenance and repairs. Performs pre‑trip & post‑trip activities such as refueling, ensuring tire pressure, and checking oil, water, and batteries periodically.
May assist in obtaining supplies (ex: dry ice), monitoring projects, and ensuring route coverage.
Performs other duties as assigned.
