Position Summary This position will cover services in the Emergency Department at our Main (Thomas) Campus and will include 2nd shift, Thursday through Sunday. The therapist will provide consult coordination, clinical assessment, therapeutic interventions, care coordination and transition planning to patients and families as an independently licensed clinician. The role participates as an interdisciplinary team member providing interventions with the patient/family on an outpatient or inpatient basis, utilizing evidence‑based treatment modalities, mandated reporting responsibilities, financial and community resource networks, advocacy, and collaboration with medical staff. The therapist may offer individual, group, and/or family interventions for an assigned caseload, deliver appropriate clinical documentation to insurance reviewers, referral sources and governmental agencies, and receive administrative supervision from division leadership and clinical direction from the Manager, Mental Health Therapy and Division Chief, Psychology.

Position Duties

Provide therapeutic interventions

Complete comprehensive individualized assessments that identify psychosocial factors important to the management of physical, psychological, behavioral, emotional and/or mental health issues; ensure documentation is appropriate for insurance reimbursement

Utilize screening tools as necessary to identify appropriate levels of care

Develop patient‑centered individualized treatment plans to improve health and wellness

Provide ongoing evidence‑based therapeutic interventions that build on patient and family strengths, address ongoing mental health needs, and are clinically necessary and appropriately documented for reimbursement

Identify barriers to treatment and assist patients/families in building on strengths to ensure success at discharge

Coordinate Care with Other Facilities and Providers

Coordinate care with insurance companies, community partners or governmental agencies, as necessary to serve the child's and family's needs, and provide appropriate documentation in accordance with policies

Maintain effective communication with medical staff, nursing, case managers, peers and families to facilitate care coordination and continuity of care

Develop treatment goals and objectives of involved disciplines and coordinate effective treatment interventions

Attend care conferences, interdisciplinary team rounds, and/or critical incidents/stress debriefings as necessary

Monitor patient transitions between outpatient and inpatient services

Refer cases identified as risk management, peer review or quality issues to appropriate departmental units

Participate in hospital and departmental initiatives to improve care delivery methods

Documentation

Complete clinical record documentation timely; provide information for coordinating care, confirming demographic data, and billing for services as appropriate

Learning

Maintain professional competency by regularly participating in educational programs, reviewing professional publications, engaging in community committees, and participating in professional societies to stay current in methodologies and practices

Maintain knowledge of community and resource networks to provide relevant resources and facilitate connections as needed

Engage in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities

Maintain independent licensure

Other Duties

Position Qualifications Education

Master’s degree from an accredited school in social work, counseling, marriage and family therapy, psychology or a related behavioral health field

Experience

Minimum of two years’ work experience in the mental health field post master’s degree; eligibility to be added to relevant insurance panels

Preferred: Five years’ experience providing evidence‑based therapy for children with histories of trauma and/or complex medical needs; eligibility for insurance panels

Special Skills

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Moderate to expert computer skills

Bilingual (English/Spanish)

Effective decision making, problem‑solving skills, creativity, patient and family strengths, influential leadership skills

Critical thinking skills and ability to anticipate patient discharge needs

Ability to assess symptoms and develop diagnostic impressions and treatment plans

Additional Requirements

Current Arizona license as an LCSW, LPC or LMFT; experience providing services for families and collaboration with psychiatry, psychology and medical team

DPS Fingerprint Clearance

Current BLS certification for Health Care Professionals from the American Heart Association
