Position Overview Dr. Paul Rowley seeks a self‑motivated and enthusiastic laboratory technician to manage the Rowley lab’s day‑to‑day running and perform experiments related to research in fungal resistance to toxic substances and outreach programs in local schools. The technician will support general laboratory research goals of understanding the molecular mechanisms of killer toxin resistance in yeasts within the Rowley lab.
Duties
Prepare standard solutions for calibration and analyses
Interpret test results and compare them with determined standards and limits
Collect laboratory or field data
Conduct research and analysis of scientific data
Participate in research design discussions
Perform literature reviews
Prepare reports
Compare data and historical records for trend verification
Develop reference files, comparison charts, and graphs on research data
Assist with site inspections and field oversight
Have little or no supervisory responsibilities
Other duties as assigned
Required Experience
Following pre‑established procedures or protocols
Collecting and reviewing scientific data
Keeping complete and accurate records
Working in a team environment
Required Education
Bachelor’s Degree in microbiology or related field
Additional Preferred
Master’s Degree in Biology
Five years of microbiology experience
Evidence of teaching/training/mentorship in high schools and Universities.
Experience with yeast cell culture and western blotting
Experience with multi‑color flow cytometry
Experience with expressing and purifying proteins from E. coli
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Capable of fine motor skills
Long periods standing at a lab work bench
Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills
Ability to remain in a stationary position (such as standing at a lab bench) for extended periods while performing laboratory duties
