Job Summary A non‑licensed healthcare provider employed by Erlanger Health Systems is responsible for direct and indirect patient care. The Patient Care Technician must demonstrate knowledge and skills appropriate to the age of the patients served, exercise judgment to recognize signs and symptoms requiring further evaluation by a licensed nurse, and communicate effectively with patients and team members.
Key Responsibilities
Provide direct and indirect care to patients, including vital sign monitoring, assisting with activities of daily living, and ensuring patient comfort.
Recognize and document changes in patient condition, escalating concerns to licensed staff as needed.
Maintain accurate patient records and assist with documentation processes.
Prepare and maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to support patient care and discharge planning.
Required Education
High School diploma or equivalent.
Must meet at least one of the following: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification; First Responder certification; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program completion; Nursing Fundamentals program completion; Medical Assistant program completion; Pre‑Medical student; Military Corpsman; Combat Life Saver/Medic; or Surgical Tech program completion.
Grandfathered patients entering prior to 3‑1‑2004 must complete an Erlanger fundamentals checklist, observed demonstration, and pass a written exam.
Experience and Certifications
Required: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, completed prior to unit assignment and maintained thereafter.
Preferred: Hospital experience and certifications such as CNA, EMT, First Responder, or Medical Assistant.
Additional training: 8 hours of education specific to Total Ankle, Hip, and Knee Replacement; 4 hours via Erlanger Online Education upon hire.
