Summary Description Under general supervision and per established policies, you will serve as a professional member of the healthcare team, providing respiratory therapy services throughout the continuum of care. Responsibilities include performing therapeutic and rehabilitative procedures and diagnostic tests for patients with or at risk of cardiopulmonary abnormalities; collaborating with physicians, nurses, and other team members to develop optimal cardiopulmonary care plans; performing patient assessments; evaluating therapy effectiveness; determining delegation of respiratory care activities; instructing employees and students; and potentially functioning as an in‑charge therapist and preceptor, as requested.
Qualifications
Graduation from an AMA/CoARC-approved Respiratory Care program; Associates degree in Science, Allied Health, or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Registration (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
BCLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.
Licensure to practice as a Respiratory Therapist in the State of Michigan.
Skills Required
Ability to evaluate patient conditions and operate all respiratory therapy and bedside pulmonary function equipment.
Ability to calculate and regulate respiratory therapy modalities.
Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients and medical, nursing, and professional staff.
Physical stamina for frequent standing, walking, lifting, and positioning of patients.
Observational skills to monitor changes in patient condition and assess emergency situations.
Knowledge of regulatory standards associated with Respiratory Care in hospitals (e.g., OSHA, MIOSHA, CAP, JCAHO, NFPA, ATS, CLIA).
