Overview The Pulmonary Critical Care Physician (inpatient, outpatient, hybrid, full time, part time and/or relief) is accountable for providing exceptional care to Cone Health patients as well as completing all clinical responsibilities.

Responsibilities

Providing inpatient and/or outpatient-based pulmonary critical care medicine.

Provides multidisciplinary team coordination services to assigned areas.

Provides medical education to Cone Health residents and other students.

The incumbent participates in or contributes to an environment to advance medical research.

The incumbent provides independent judgment in diagnosis and treatment of patients, formulation of treatment plans, and direction of the interdisciplinary team (advanced practice providers) in achieving the goals of the patient care plan.

Education/Training: utilizes literature and attends regional and national meetings to remain current and professionally competent; participates in inpatient, staff, and professional education programs; participates in educational and research programs including didactic material, formal teaching conferences, clinical teaching, staff education conferences, and clinical research.

Liaison: participates in liaison duties with the other professional staff, and in development of patient referral sources; keeps referring physicians informed of care and outcomes.

Patient Care: Provides direct and indirect patient care; provides medical supervision of the interdisciplinary team and supervises residents and medical students; participates in clinical research projects of interest; provides accurate and timely documentation and sign off of care to establish up-to-date medical records for billing purposes.

Professional Standards: models and upholds the professional standards of MCHS; acts in concert with MCHS Mission, Vision, and Values; demonstrates collegial and respectful relationships; upholds Socratic Oath; honors patient confidentiality; acts with integrity; works in alignment with MCHS goals.

Quality and Safety: participates in medical audits, quality improvement programs, peer review, and other inquiries; provides leadership to achieve maximum benefit for patients; ensures safe practice standards and regulatory compliance.

Quality Improvement: engages in continuous improvements, evidence based practices; maintains records; participates in development of clinical guidelines; shares on-call responsibilities.

Qualifications / Education / Experience / Licensure/Certification Education:

Required: Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from a Medical School recognized by the North Carolina Medical Board. Also recognized International degrees.

Experience:

Required: Completed appropriate residency training (and fellowship training as required).

Licensure/Certification/Registry:

Practitioner must be fully licensed to practice medicine in NC; meet MCHS by-laws; obtain medical staff privileges; current DEA registration; maintain professional liability insurance.
